I didn't. it was a warning. she may be "old" but the woman is still smart and witty. she knew damn well what she was doing. she knew it would make the rounds. |

It could very well be a warning. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 628775 Canada 06/09/2010 03:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Helen Thomas - A Canary in the Coal Mine warning of an upcoming Israeli Attack? Quoting: Grizzled Old Observer of Life 991373Helen Thomas, the long time White House Correspondent is older and possibly somewhat senile, but after 60 years of being a reporter a reporter's mindset is not only ingrained in her blood, it is also part and parcel of her personality. What therefore could drive her to make the statements that she did about Israeli Jews needing to go back to Germany, Poland, the US? ... something that NO sane reporter would make and which in a reporter's soul runs against their entire mindset. Major league reporters hear rumors. Reporters hear scuttlebut. Reporters learn about things that are neither "provable", attributable, nor printable. And yes reporters sometimes join into a "Conspiracy of Silence". It is just the nature of the business. (before both the first and second Gulf Wars the National Reporters working the WH and Pentagon beat all knew those Wars were coming and the approximate timing of the US attacks ... but nobody spilled the beans) As a reporter towards the end of your career what would your response be to "whispers", nothing provable or attributable, of an upcoming intentionally begun War, a War that in your own opinion could cause the start of a World War that could radically change life in your own country? Helen Thomas's outburst was "out of character" ... and was also NOT the type of outburst that a senile person would make (they wouldn't have enough wits about them to have such an outburst), so what drove it? My analysis is that Ms. Thomas has heard rumors of an upcoming Israeli attack, maybe even rumors of some of the specifics of the attacks and the general timing. Rumors that are not reportable, because all they all are rumors, but based upon covering the White House through 4 wars (Korea onward) and 2 almost wars have the ring of absolute credibility to a well seasoned reporter. If one then believes that such a War "WILL" most likely result in a conflageration that gets out of control and could easily move to a serious exchange of nuclear weapons what is one to do? In Helen's case, if my analysis is correct, she apparently decided to call the instigators of that upcoming War onto the carpet and point out the fact that they are not even natives to the land that they are about to launch a World War over ... just self transplanted religious zealots. Helen's outburst can only be understood from the perspective of her believing that: 1) WAR IS COMING. 2) TIME IS VERY SHORT. 3) THAT WAR IS BEING FOUGHT FOR STRICTLY RELIOUS ZEALOTRY REASONS. 4) THE INSTIGATORS OF THAT UPCOMING WAR ARE NOT EVEN NATIVES TO THE LAND THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SEIZING. Helen Thomas obviously knew her career would be over when she made her statement, the blowback would be too severe to remain. She also obviously felt it was better to go out in a blaze of honesty and forewarning to the rest of America as she completes the work mission of her life. She may well feel, and history may yet record, that Helen Thomas's greatest work as a "Reporter" was her final act as a reporter ... a warning to all who understand reporters that a terrible event is about to happen and that there are certain characters who in her mind are chiefly to blame. Grizzled Old Observer of Life Exactly what I said to my son last night while we were discussing the incident. Hah, great minds think alike. |

I knew it was COMPLETELY OOC for Helen, but I was simply shocked at the comment and chalked it up to her being old and fed up with all of the BS. Thank you for pointing this out, but in many ways and please don't take this as a cut down.... but I really do hope you are wrong :/ |
