Exactly! And this is the ultimate relief we are going to have to wait months for???

Best option we are told.

And I do hope they take into consideration those of us living n the immediate vicinity before they try nuking anything!

Well...I just called and submitted my idea lol. I was actually surprised when a human being answered the phone on only the 3rd ring. He was real friendly, and actually seemed to ponder my idea for a bit...took all of my info and said he would submit it. I really didn't think I'd get a human being, and especially one that sounded so interested. Probably a bad idea, but hey, I tried...

I'm really not in it for the fame neither, just answered the guys questions is all. I wanted to help. It's not like I don't used gasoline to power my truck, so I know I'm part of the problem, though I only drive a 4 cylinder.

I'll admit though, I could certainly use the money right now, if there was to be some type of reward! lol...but you really ought to submit your idea. I think the only reason he asked me my name and email addy was so that BP could contact me in case they had any further questions about my idea...not that they ever would lol...but you really ought to call the number, it's easy! Just like calling a friend or neighbor and the operator/s are very nice and easy to talk to.

I think you have a great idea, simple yet affective...same with the farmers and their hay idea for soaking up the floating oil. You really ought to call and submit it. What if yours is the one that saves the gulf?? Are you willing to sit on it just because you fear fame? And maybe you can just give them your email addy. Can even make it a throw away one if you're really concerned about it. Call from a pay phone lol

(It's copied and pasted from their form, evidently they need it all.) I've left off my name. It doesn't matter what my name is. What matters is stopping the gusher.

It's got to be SIMPLE, folks.

It has to be something that takes NO EFFORT,

they're fucking BROKE, AND looking at, what, $75 MILLION in damages?

Listen. This is YOU. This IS your life. YOU make it better, 'cuz 'they' just don't seem to be able to FIO (Figure It Out).

Re: PIN THIS!!!! BP IS NOW TAKING SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC!!!!
Hey, I actually sent BP a suggestion on how to clean up the water in the Gulf that now has oil in it.

Here's what the form looks like when you send it.

Please DO NOT laugh at my suggestion. It was the best that I could do. Hey, at least I tried to help.

Process:

This suggestion is for cleaning up the water in the Gulf, not how to stop the flow of oil into the Gulf. The overall idea is to not attempt to try to separate the oil from the water while the oil/water is still in the Gulf. Remove a very large volume of oil/water from the Gulf each day by pumping it into a fleet of oil tankers that transport it from the Gulf to the shore to a refinery complex where it will be worked on. This transport process should continue day and night. Have the oil/water transferred from the tanker and into an intake pipe through a small pore synthetic filter (like a large coffee filter) to rid the mix of impurities and microscopic sea life. Have this filtered product flow via the latter length of the intake pipe into many large holding tanks that are the size of large granary silos. The holding tanks (silos) should have applied to them in advance an electrostatic resistant inner rubber coating and the capacity to be slowly heated from underneath. The coating will prevent prevent leaks between the seams and rivets of the holding tanks and it will reduce the buildup of static electricity during the filling procedure. The holding tanks should also have a gasket at the bottom so that there is a strong seal to prevent leaks from occurring due to gravity there. The holding tanks also need to be fitted with a valvular aperture that is also rubber coated and which will open once a hose that is rubber coated inside is screwed into the aperture (like a fire hose to a hydrant). Oil and water don't stay mixed; they are of different chemical characters (water is the penultimate hydrophilic substance and oil is hydrophobic) and, thus, they are immiscible. Given enough time, they will separate. Therefore, once each holding tank is full, allow the oil/water to stand for 10-20 minutes, attach the hose and syphon off the top layer. This layer will be the oil which is of lesser density. Return the salt water to the Gulf by a fleet of oil tankers. This process continues around the clock. If perchance the oil has so many impurities in it that its density is too similar to that of water, the silos could be heated until the oil and its impurities sink to the bottom of the silo. Then, the oil/water in the holding tanks can be heated to decrease the density of the water without exerting any effect on the oil and its remaining impurities. Process the oil as you would any crude oil.

Materials:

5000 filters "millipore-style" nitrocellulose (or cotton?) filters cut to be slightly larger than the bore size of the intake pipe; each filter should be used for filling only one holding tank.

Equipment:

2 fleets of 3 oil tankers (6 total) and their crews: Three oil tankers should be working each side of the process at all times; bringing oil/water to shore and returning sea water to the Gulf. 18 long fairly large bore intake pipes 18 holding tanks (largest silos available) pre-coated on the interior with rubber and pre-fitted with a bottom gasket and a side aperture (coated) 18 aperture fittings (cut a hole and either secure them with nuts and bolts or weld them into place) 22 gaskets (4 extra in case up to 4 fail) for the bottoms of the holding tanks 36 crude oil tanker trucks to transport the newly filtered and recovered crude oil to the nearest railway to be loaded into an appropriate tanker rail car to transport it by rail to where it can be refined (Houston?) (18 are bring filled while 18 are going to and from the railway station).

Personnel and their expertise:

Oil tanker captains and their crews, oil refinery workers who will help manage the transfer of oil/water into the holding tanks and then into the waiting tanker trucks, a staff of 9 organic chemists (1 per each holding tank in case problems arise with separation), 9 mechanical engineering technicians (in case any of the equipment fails), you'll need to specially contract with the Whatman filter company (who makes filters for chemical filtration) to make very large nitrocellulose or cotton (?) filters to span the bore size of the intake pipes, on land tanker drivers, individuals to transfer the newly filtered and separated crude oil from tanker truck to train tanker. The organic chemist could also do tests on the newly filtered crude oil to determine how much chemical dispersant it has in it. There may be a way to remove the chemical dispersant from the crude oil. The organic chemists will know if it is important to do and how to do it.

Great idea! No laughter here:) Besides, the best ideas in the world are useless until someone takes the time to submit them;)

BP need to seal the leak fast! Else the oil are going to consume the sea. Take a look at the Norway spiral message

....or fabricate a giant pop rivet with an expanding mandrel at the bottom....like a giant avex rivet.
they have hydraulic capabilities there to draw the pin out. Need to not overlook the simple stuff.

Re: PIN THIS!!!! BP IS NOW TAKING SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC!!!!
Just a word of input from on the ground in Oklahoma where we have a thriving tradition of oilfield support.

Private industry of every sort is ready, willing, and able to move men and materiel into place -- not just "as needed", but "as allowed".

We have the logistical ability to send in and stage endless streams of loss control material -- whether walnut hulls, hay, sawdust, graphite, bagasse (sugar cane detritus) or whatever works.

Ingenious individuals of all sorts are applying themselves to finding a way or making a way.

Where governments and bloated industries fail, just plain common sense people can often get things done.

Do I believe BP is really sincere about their "talk to the public" hotline? Not necessarily.

But I do believe -- in fact I know -- that brilliant minds already in the private petroleum industry support sector -- can and will come up with a combination of things that will make a difference.

If the blithering idiots arguing over the blame will only stand back and let us roll.
