Texas is fixin' to join the illegal immigration bill bandwagon
Aide: Texas rep. plans immigration bill similar to Arizona law

by MARTIN BARTLETT / KVUE News

Updated yesterday at 9:49 PM

AUSTIN – State Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, will introduce immigration legislation comparable to that recently signed into law in Arizona, according to an aide.

Rep. Berman, who is traveling in Europe, authorized the aide to respond to KVUE News’ request for information regarding his plans for the 82nd Legislative Session which beings in January 2011.

According to the aide, Berman said his bill will be similar to the Arizona law, specifically the provision which allows local law enforcement agencies in the state to check the immigration status of individuals they believe to be in the United States illegally.

Members of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus said they are doubtful the bill will have much traction during the 82nd Legislature.

I feel this would be a good move for Texas. Their social systems are in tatters like those of Arizona. The monetary drain from undocumented illegals is wiping out the health care, and numerous other social services programs.

I SAY KICK EM ALL OUT

5 gold stars to Texas for the initiave

Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. If they started deporting illegals, half the public schools would be gutted and they would have to let a lot of the teachers go. There are so many schools built and portable buildings put up to accommodate the influx...I'll bet many schools would be almost empty.

It sounds good, but how does this protect the average citizen? Won't a spot-check be at the discretion of the officer? No more fourth amendment. Where are your papers!

This legislation will be abused, and eventually it will come to a point where we citizens (for the "REATER good", mind you) will become accustomed to showing our papers at the drop of a dime and without protest...like good little maggots.

It has nothing to do with racism. Once again, "Mexican" is not a race. It is a invasion across national borders, supported by the Mexican government and abetted by the U.S. government.

What are you talking about? That law allows officers to question ANYBODY they THINK might be an illegal alien...not just those they pull over. Currently, it is not lawful for an officer to randomly ask for ID unless you're operating a motor vehicle (and they have a reason to stop you, i.e. traffice violation, etc..), or you've been a witness to a crime, or have committed a crime.

If you're walking down the street minding your own business and some officer randomly comes up to you and says, "show me your ID." You are not obligated to obey that command under the law.

What I'm saying is, if this law is passed, what is to stop an officer from using it to stop and question whomever they damn well please for whatever reason they choose? It basically negates the 4th amendment.

Get a clue buddy.

I was listening to an AZ Sheriff talking about it...he said that the cops will have to have an ALTERNATE cause for asking for ID. ..ie, traffic stop.

like i said.

anyone wanting to create a great business in AZ is to start a non-profit business based on a 1800# to report illegal aliens..then a formal complaint is filed that has to be answered by the Cops...

you operate on donations. and believe me, you will have MILLIONS to operate on.

billboards with the 1800# and illegals will RUN LIKE HELL TO LEAVE AZ.

These are all tactics from the BHO admin to get us to start fighting amongst each other and avert our eyes from Barry's failing economic policies.

Think about it. In order for the police to start enforcing immigration laws, there has to be a way for them to determine "legal" residents. That is only possible if for instance, it said so on our driver's license or better yet, only legal residents are able to get driver's licenses. I see this as another push for a National I.D. card because I don't see the states forking over the cash to re-issue new licenses.

And yet the schools would get the same amount of funding. The people leaving are not paying property taxes.

The real test will be if the Arizona law is struck down by the Supreme Court. Texas and New Mexico will be watching this closely before taking any actions. Texas and New Mexico will have to follow suit out of necessity, if the SC upholds the law.

Whenever someone says "think about it" I get suspicious ...

This problem too is better fixed at the state level. Only give drivers licenses to legal residents! Most states have this control. Some don't, Oregon for example. I got rear-ended in California by an illegal with Oregon plates.

I'm just saying...we need to be careful about this kind of legislation, which could wind up screwing the American citizens out of a few more rights under the guise illegal-immigration abolition.

Like I said, it sounds good, but down the road it could lead to unintended consequences...or in our government's case, absolutely intended consequences for the unsuspecting sheeple.
