Anonymous Coward User ID: 938364 United Kingdom 04/09/2010 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can someone translate the OP's message for me please? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 101513=Apparently, OP thinks that German intelligence depends on Nina for orders, and that Nina is somehow older than Hitler. HAHA Thank you for that quick translation. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 910124 United States 04/09/2010 02:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP means that the Song 99 luft balloons by Nina was a code for 99 red balloons. And when the people who had Hitler saw something red in the sky that it was safe to move him to where ever they were taking him. This is the first time I have heard about this. |

User ID: 385114 United States 04/09/2010 03:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have always like that bass linefor Nina's German Wave song "99 Luftballons", which was re-recorded in English as "99 Red Balloons". Matter of fact I used to play the single/45 at the radio station and one side was in German and the other side was English..I always thought that was pretty cool. Nina (also a RUMOR) did not kill herself. Matter of fact, she did something in 2000 or so and as recently as 2007 founded the school, ""Neue Schule Hamburg". I can not remember the name of the school, but while on a jazz tour in 1991 I was fortunate enough to visit her school while staying with a German family. I believe she has also done some voice over work for films and as a youth was trained as a goldsmith after dropping out of school. |

The song talks about Nena and the listener buying 99 Balloons in a shop and letting them go, for fun. These balloons show up on the radar as unidentified objects and both sides scramble planes and go to full alert to counteract a perceived Nuclear Attack, when in fact it is the most childlike of things, a bunch of balloons." Or was that earlier, maybe the '70's that. Anyway, 99 red balloon yeah, I remember it well. Always reminds me of I Think We're Alone Now for some reason. "It's an inter-dimensional intrusion into flatland," said the vicar to the choir boy. |

She is still around as well having done everything from country to dance She has been busy in not just the U.S. but numerous other countries as well. I believe Billboard has her on a Dance Club chart now. You may remember "Weird Al" Yankovic when he parodied Tiffany and did the song "I Think I'm a Clone Now". |

Quoting: Richard StrongThe myth is that Phil Collins wrote the song about his friend drown from a nearby cliff as Phil stood there unable to help. Apparently he (Phil) was too far away to help but another person was there and did nothing. The story goes that Phil wrote the song and then years later gave the man that did nothing FRONT ROW SEATS to Phil's show and has lights on the man while singing the song. I have heard in addition (rumor) that the man was also brought on stage and arrested after the song. Phil Collins himself has said however that, "IN THE AIR TONIGHT" was written to deal with his bitterness and frustration over his marriage (1st wife) and the lyrics do not deal with any REAL incident. |

Not sure about the weird al track, but then he's done so many joke covers he no longer appears on my horizon. In regard to to Tiffany, she was over here a little while back, on some BBC talk show about something or other. Not sure what it was about, but good to see she's still alive, albeit looking a lot older these days. Minor stardom is bad ofr the skin... All the music around that time sounded the same to me anyway, same era as that Manaquin (or however you spell it) movie. Gawd the 80's were awful/great. Anonymous Coward User ID: 917779 Canada 04/09/2010 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Back in those days, there were frequent alerts which you never heard about in the media. Fighter jets flying along the East German border with their weapon radars locked on to each other, ready to the pull the trigger. The song was about that. In fact this shit is still going on but not as frequently, I hope. |
