WHISTLEBLOWER: Peak Oil Being Covered Up by International Energy Agency
IEA Whistleblower Claims Agency’s Oil Supply Data is Exaggerated

Could we have already reached peak oil? According to a Monday report by the Guardian, the answer is yes. A whistleblower at the International Energy Agency spoke to the UK paper on the condition of anonymity, saying that the IEA has been “deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering buying panic.” He also added that the United States has been encouraging the distortions, asking the agency to downplay the lack of oil while overhyping the promise of new reserves.

Many governments rely on the IEA’s World Energy Outlook (the most recent version of which was released on Tuesday) to help predict energy trends and shape policy. The serious allegation of the IEA misrepresenting the facts raises obvious concern over the accuracy of the report, particularly the forecast that oil production will rise from 85 million barrels per day to 105 million barrels per day by 2030. According to the anonymous source within the IEA, “…today’s number is much higher than can be justified and the IEA knows this. Many inside the organization believe that maintaining oil supplies at even 90 million to 95 million barrels a day would be impossible but there are fears that panic could spread on the financial markets if the figures were brought down further.”

To keep up with global oil demand, the world will need to discover an additional four Saudi Arabias worth of crude production before 2030.

Existing oil fields will lose two-thirds of their productive capacity by 2030.

Between 2008 and 2030, the percentage of GDP spent on energy in the U.S. will double, and in countries like China and India could increase three- to six-fold.

Peak oil is a real situation, but just realize that there are strategic oil reserves, such as Prudhoe Bay Alaska, that you are not meant to know about.

There's manipulation everywhere you go.

The Guardian is a rag for the greenies.

Oil is absurdly over-priced in relation to real demand right now and investment banks are running out of tankers to store the stuff (yes, they do that). How convenient for this 'whistleblower' to appear out of the wood work.

When it comes to the Saudi sweet light crude we have no idea, really how much is left but there's plenty of the yuckier stuff in the world. Sure it's expensive to extract but at current prices it's easily profitable and some new technology could be developed to make it more so.

I don't believe technology is always the best fix for everything (particulary toxic chemical spills in waterways, etc.) but 'peak oil' types always like to pretend there will never be any near-term technological advances. That includes replacements for oil like natural gas, methane, etc.
