Calling All Oath Keepers: Time to Take a Stand This April 19 in Washington DC and Virginia in Defense of the Constitution

Special Message from Stewart Rhodes, Founder of Oath Keepers.

WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN: TWO KEY RALLIES ON APRIL 19, 2010

There are two upcoming events on April 19, 2010 in the Washington DC/northern Virginia area that I, Oath Keepers Founder, Stewart Rhodes, will be speaking at. I urge you to be there as well.

1. THE RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION RALLY. This will be an open carry rally at Ft. Hunt National Park, in Virginia (where open carry is legal), right across the Potomac from DC. Go to www.restoretheconstitution.wordpress.com for more information. The organizer is Iraq combat veteran, Daniel Almond. The event starts at 9am and I’m scheduled to speak there from 11am to 11:25am, and then Army veteran and retired police Capt. Chauncey Normandin (RET), Lowell (MA) PD, the Oath Keepers National Vice President East of the Mississippi, will conduct an oath ceremony.

I will then travel into DC (without firearms) to the other event on that same day:

2. THE SECOND AMENDMENT MARCH. This will be an unarmed march on the National Mall in DC itself on April 19, 2010. Go to www.secondamendmentmarch.org for more info. The organizer is Skip Coryell, Second Amendment activist and author. Oath Keepers is now a proud sponsor of that march. I’m scheduled to speak there from 12:45 to 1pm, also conducting an oath ceremony right there in DC. Depending on the turnout, it has the potential to be the largest oath ceremony in history. Among the other speakers will be Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America, Orange County Sheriff candidate Bill Hunt, Sheriff Richard Mack, Suzanna G. Hupp, Pastor Kenn Blanchard, and Michael Bane (some of whom will also speak in Virginia).

Both events will run all day on April 19, 2010, but the organizers are coordinating so some speakers will be able to speak at both.

This April 19, 2010, is the one year anniversary of Oath Keepers, and there will of course be a contingent of Oath Keepers in Lexington, Massachusetts to celebrate there, but I feel compelled to go to the events in DC and Virginia instead. Let me tell you why, and why you should be there too.

WHY YOU NEED TO BE THERE (at one or both events)

Oath Keepers, I don’t need to tell you how dire a situation this nation is in. When Thomas Paine wrote these immortal words in December, 1776, he could have been writing about our time:

“THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”

And what, exactly, was the nature of the tyranny he spoke of? As Paine tells us in the next sentence:

“Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but “to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER” and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth. Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.” -- Thomas Paine, The Crisis, December 23, 1776.

Now, in our times that will try our souls, the oath breakers in Washington DC have declared a similar power to regulate us in all cases whatsoever, right down to the minutest details of our lives. They have nationalized the banks (with their eager compliance), nationalized General Motors, and now presume to nationalize and regulate your health care. They have bailed out the banksters by placing on the backs of our children and future generations an astronomical debt that cannot be repaid while devaluing our currency. Continuing the unconstitutional actions of the last Administration, the current Administration is further eroding our Bill of Rights and expanding the claimed surveillance, detention, and “emergency” powers over the American People. The oath breakers in DC of both parties are driving this nation over a cliff to economic ruin and lawless, unchecked government.

They will admit to no limits on their power. If you dare ask where in the Constitution they can find authorization for any of their claims, they will respond with “are you serious?!” Or as Congressman Phil Hare recently told his constituents, “I don’t worry about the Constitution on this [the health care law], to be honest.”

The Constitution is mere toilet paper to them.

The oath breakers in DC have also repeatedly shown their utter contempt for the will of the people, bailing out the banksters despite overwhelming public opposition, and now cramming their coercive health regulation down our throats despite massive public opposition. And you can bet they will not stop of their own accord. As Frederick Douglas said, “power concedes nothing without demand. It never has, and never will.” Douglas also said, “Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.”

What will you submit to? You took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The time has come to keep that oath by taking a firm stand, to let the oath breakers in DC know that you and yours will not submit and go quietly as they “transform” our Constitutional Republic into what will rightly meet the definition of a totalitarian state (without limits on its powers, which it creates for itself out of thin air without the consent of the people).

There is no more fitting time and place to send that message of defiance, resistance, and resolve than to step right up, shoulder to shoulder with your brothers and sisters this April 19, 2010, and shout your oaths in the tyrant’s face.

By doing so, you will also be showing your support for fellow Americans who are merely exercising their right to free speech, to peaceably assemble, to association, to petition their government for a redress of grievances, and their right to keep and bear arms. The atrophied liberty muscles of the people do indeed need exercise! Support them.

I urge you to drop whatever plans you may have for that day and join me at one or both of those crucial events on April 19. The hour is late, and the time has come for us Oath Keepers to step up and lead by example. On that day, as the inspiring song by James Hooker puts it, you “can’t afford to be in bed asleepin … brothers come running.”
