Pelosi Calls on Catholic Saint to Pass Pro-Abortion Health Care Bill, Flubs Date

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on a Catholic saint today to help her and her pro-abortion colleague pass a Senate health care bill that contains massive abortion funding. Not only did Pelosi upset pro-life Catholics in so doing, but she got the date wrong concerning the saint she mentioned.

"Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, particularly important to Italian-Americans," Pelosi said.

"It’s a day where we remember and pray to St. Joseph to benefit the workers of America, and that’s exactly what our health-care bill will do," she added.

Washington Examiner writer David Freddoso noticed Pelosi's flub.

"Speaker Pelosi should check her calendar again, because the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker is on May 1. Today is simply the feast or Solemnity of Saint Joseph," he writes.

"Either way, Joseph is also the patron saint of fathers and of happiness at the time of one's death. He would not consider the killing of unborn babies to be health care, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have appreciated working hard all day only to see the fruits of his labor taken through taxes to subsidize abortions," he added.

Catholic Families for America director Dr. Kevin Roberts, responded to
Pelosi's comments.

"Does the speaker not know that St. Joseph is the patron of families? How far does her apostasy go?" he told LifeNews.com.

Roberts mentioned that so many Catholic groups had been praying a Novena to St. Joseph, which is a nine-day prayer for his intercession on behalf of families, healthy marriages, and children. "How sick does Pelosi have to be to associate St. Joseph with such a pro-abortion, anti-family bill?" Roberts asked.

Catholic Families for America has seen its membership "explode" in recent months because of the moral hypocrisy of Catholic elected officials like Pelosi, Roberts said.

"Though we hate for the country to even come close to passing this bill," Roberts continued, "the one silver lining is its galvanizing of Catholics on the issue of representing Church teaching in an authentic way."

Pelosi has repeatedly claimed to be a good Catholic while advancing abortion at a rapid pace.

In a 2006 interview with Clift, Pelosi regretted that her family is “very pro-life” and would “like it if I were not so vocally pro-choice.” But, she proclaimed, “To me it isn't even a question. God has given us a free will.”

Last year she said the "free will" of women wanting abortions outweighs pro-life Catholic teachings.

And those comments followed on Pelosi thanking God that the Senate health care bill funds abortions.

Always sickeningly hilarious how they try to wrap themselves in religious trappings in a vain attempt to appear legitimate in their designs.

No way in the world will St. Joseph support abominations.

it's ironic that St. Joseph is the patron Saint of fighting communism.

it's insulting for Pelosi to invoke St. Joseph when he is the patron saint of the unborn.
