You need to figure out what you absolutely NEED.. one thing I learned from my experience is that for myself, hot running water and reliable refrigeration are high on my list of important things. You need to save enough money to buy your land and cabin outright, and make enough to pay taxes if you are in the US. You can try hiding out in a wilderness area, a few people manage to do it, but most cannot. You need to know howto for lots of things... getting water, running an oil lamp, wildcrafting food and medicine, etc. a good beginning is the foxfire books..but that is only the beginning. Maybe you should do some more research first and know exactly what you are getting into...maybe spend a month in a wilderness area this summer, and try a weekend in the winter for starters, to see if you can bear it. Good luck |

Plenty of time to live in a shack in the wilderness later when that might be our only choice. I wouldn't want to do it any sooner that I had to, although just trying it out for a bit might be a good idea. It would help one appreciate all that we have. |
