South Koreans waged cyber warfare against Japan’s biggest social website because of Japanese doubt over fairness of Korean figure skater’s gold medal

This is synopsis put together by news and my Asian friends’ information.

South Koreans launched organized cyber attack against 2ch.net, Japan’s biggest anonymous community message board, much like GLP style, covering virtually everything. This cyber warfare was because the users of 2ch.net posted the allegation that South Korean figure skating star Yona Kim’s gold medal was bought with money to the judges. It was a mystery to many Japanese why Japan’s figure skater Asada Mao was pushed to the second place despite perfect performance. On March 1, 13:00 P.M., the national anniversary of Korean independence day, as many as 10,000 South Koreans staged concerted attack against 2ch.net with something similar to DDos attack (pressing f5 key in repeat) and viruses that hijacked the site, displaying Korean national flag on the main frame. 30 message boards out of 33 were knocked down quickly. 2ch.net banned access from all IPs in Korea (I heard 2ch.net server is located in US), but the damages were already done, and the website remained dysfunctional for 9 hours. The Japanese side had to put together their counterattack force, but because the interested users were mostly high schoolers, they had to wait until 5 P.M. to amass the force. As soon as they were ready, the Japanese attacked Korean presidential website and VANK, Korea’s anti anti-Korean organization. The attacks were fended off in an hour. I heard the South Korean side already planted “spies” in 2ch.net and they read every move of the Japanese side in advance. This is the hottest news in Chinese, Japanese, Korean internet today.
