Simple tips can yield big savings. Quoting: smilesunOne of the easiest ways to reduce heating bills and costs is to lower the thermostat 1-2 degrees in winter, and raise it by 1-2 degrees in summer. Now the good news to save money on your monthly energy bill, comes from scientists at MIT. Of course water lines might freeze and refrigerator and freezer could defrost and get too hot. Thats workable to control with passive devices. But the real problem is the human. It wants to dress like summer in the tropics all the time for comfort and mobility. So the super thin flexible insulation for the human is the main object of creature comfort. Making an insulator by means of sound is wild in your gonna use it to cover a human body. ha ha ha Likely that aint gonna happen. But they might make some wall cover of some sort. I guess the cost of homes is gonna go up a bit again. |

Taking a conventional 3' x 2' x 18" bale of straw (not hay, hay has seed) one stacks and pins them together with rebar driven through. If you go for 18" thick walls, you get an R value of around 40 - taking the 2' depth you get an R value of around 45. Straw-bale construction is popping up all over, many places are either looking at it as an alternative to conventional stick frame and glass fiber or have already passed codes for it. BTW the Perfect insulator is going to be chemical, its most likely going to present us with disposal issues, most likely will end up costing us far much more than say glass fiber. It's 50R insulated and airtight. Then spray 6" Icynene in the metal roof. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 900902[link to www.smartblock.com] I built my own house. And made it like most homes with 2 by six framing and regular insulation. But on the outside layer of the house I added 1 inch foam insulation sheets. And I live in montana. And the house is extremely efficient. I start up the woods stove let it burn out and that heats the house for 24 hours. The other important thing that I've learned. I have 6 inch deep cement floors that warm up and that I bleive is why the house can stay 70 degrees warm for 24 hours. And in the summer the cement cools down and keeps the house cool. |

Every collectivist revolution rides in on a Trojan horse of "emergency". It was the tactic of Lenin, Hitler, and Mussolini. In the collectivist sweep over a dozen minor countries of Europe, it was the cry of men striving to get on horseback. And "emergency" became the justification of the subsequent steps. This technique of creating emergency is the greatest achievement that demagoguery attains. — Herbert Hoover. Belch! |
