[quote:Anonymous Coward 83659073:MV81MTYxNjA1Xzk0ODA3Nzk1XzZCRDkxQTVB] [quote:Anonymous Coward 51303294:MV81MTYxNjA1Xzk0ODA3NzE5X0FBQjZEQzc5] I was three years old and playing in the backyard of my Grandparents rural home. Seemingly from out of nowhere (and completely unprovoked) a dog came into the yard from an adjacent farm field and I was viciously attacked. My Grandmother managed to get the animal off me, but I received numerous bad bites and was completely traumatized by the event. This incident made me deathly afraid of dogs for the next ten years, until I was thirteen and riding my bike down a street near my home. A dog bolted from an adjacent alley and took off after me. Initially I pedaled as hard as could to get away, but he kept right up and was biting at my heels. It was at that point something in my brain just snapped. My fear turned to anger, and I'd had enough. I took my left foot off the pedal and kicked the dog repeatedly in the head until it finally stopped chasing me. My fear of dogs was gone forever, and it was a defining moment in my life.
I had a neighbor that had a dog like that, not so long ago. He bit the wrong dude riding his bike and "Thunder" wound up floating in a pond.
I was 3. Had an ear tag. I remember being held down on the hospital bed, lime green walls, and the med team shoving a black mask over my face to put me out.
They say mental illness is spawned from trauma.
