We live in a mostly red state and looked into moving recently. The home values where we live are through the roof. We decided to stay for a few reasons. Our State has some of the best gun laws of all the red states. Our winters are incredible. When looking for a new home we could not find a place we thought would be better and as affordable. If we moved to the heartland, we could find homes that were very affordable way more affordable than where we live now but who wants to live there. At this point, if we moved it would either be to somewhere in our current state or possibly Texas (lived there before and liked it a lot) and that's about it. I know someone who moved to Montana recently and it has a lot of positives but I don't think I could deal with the brutal winters. If I lived in a blue state I would sell as soon as possible and move to any other red state. If you sell now and buy now you will do great with the home price before inflation hits everywhere. I can not live with an authoritarian government and extreme taxes. Not to mention the blue people, they suck!
So it's best to buy soon, in the new place, soon after I move? Or would it be better to wait a year?
Yep that's the tough question. When we were seriously considering this we had two thoughts, we could live in our RV and wait it out or buy now. Our thoughts were the same, will things go down to nothing like in 2008 or will they continue to rise because of the current regime or massive inflation. We decided that if we did move we could use the proceeds from our home to buy the next one. If we did and prices went south we would still own a home and hope things went back to normal someday.
