Solal cycle 25 did begin a year earlier then I thought it would. In February I was wondering if an early start points towards a strong maximum. Link shows it may. Thanks op.
You betcha!! .
*Solar. Got my index and middle finger with the lawnmower blade tues. Sun was Hot AF that day. Still got my fingers but can't type worth shit. Hello from Mad town. Sun has caused a crazy drought here. Nearly 7.5" behind on rain for the year as of today. Was shootin' skip on 27.386 lsb when we had solar conditions on Feb 23rd and watched the snow melt crazy fast in the hot Sun without even filling ditches and streams. The air was so hot and dry and the Sun was so strong that day the snow was evaporating without seeping into the ground. My interest was peaked that day as I had not expected to have Solar conditions to make 850mi contacts with only 100watts. Made it to Florida from Madison on my mobile that day. Beginning to look a bit like 2012 on both the radio and gardening game. Related? You Bet.
"We call it the Termination Event,"
says Scott McIntosh, a solar physicist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR),
"and it's very, very close to happening."
If you've never heard of the Termination Event, you're not alone. Many researchers have never heard of it either. It's a relatively new idea in solar physics championed by McIntosh and colleague Bob Leamon of the University of Maryland - Baltimore County. According to the two scientists, vast bands of magnetism are drifting across the surface of the sun. When oppositely-charged bands collide at the equator, they annihilate (or "terminate"). There's no explosion; this is magnetism, not anti-matter. Nevertheless, the Termination Event is a big deal. It can kickstart the next solar cycle into a higher gear.
