[quote:Anonymous Coward 63353506:MV80Njg2Mjc5Xzg1Mjk5MjMwXzcyOUVGQTlC] [quote:Anonymous Coward 77729316:MV80Njg2Mjc5Xzg1Mjk5MDk2XzYyOTY2MzRB] He preyed on stupid gay old white religious retards. Idiots that thought the 50s and 60s were golden. US manufacturing wasnt the greatest it was the only source.. Why was it displaced so easily for fuck sakes... i am an economic historian researcher... US was "great" after ww2 because all the other worldwide factories were bombed out destroyed
You make a good point, but it didn't have to be that way. At one time we built things here in the US with the intent they last a long time, and not just be disposable like now. I beg to differ with you that we never built quality on a par with foriegn competitors like Germany or Japan, you're going by todays standards and realities. A German made VW bug would go about 45 thousand miles before needing an engine rebuilt, a Chevy or ford of the same era twice that far, and if a VW bug ever collided with a Chevy or Ford, the occupants were usually killed. . I have a 1950's vintage refrigerator still working, in fact you will find more 50s and 60's refrigerators still working than those that are only 10 to 20 years old. You might be a historian, but history is just HIS story. . These days a foriegn built car will last three times as long before it needs an engine rebuild as US made cars in the 50's and 60's, but with most of them you cant even rebuild them and even if you could, by the time it does need an engine rebuild, it isn't worth rebuilding, same with appliances and all kinds of things. With the newer stuff with parts imported from china, once one thing goes out on it the rest of it is done as well. We also employed a lot of people repairing things like TV's appliances and cars, now we dispose of them when they quit. The healthiest, stablest economy is one that is self contained and one which DOES NOT dispose of things to create consumption. .
