While Turkey has made incursions into Syria in the past, it does not have the necessary forces mobilized on the border to move in and hold the large swaths of northeastern Syria where U.S. troops are positioned, the official said." Trump wasn't going to be strong-armed by Erdogan, which is a common NYC mafia tactic from the 1980's.

Moscow. 12 December. INTERFAX.RU - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that “in a few days,” the Turkish military would launch an operation on Syrian territory east of the Euphrates River. “It’s time to implement our decision to eradicate terrorist groups east of the Euphrates,” the newspaper said. "Hurriyet" the words of R.T. Erdogan.
The President explained that such actions will contribute to a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
Hurriyet in turn recalls that on December 11, the Pentagon announced the deployment of observation posts in northern Syria in order to prevent clashes between the Turkish army and the US-backed Kurdish militia. Earlier, Ankara appealed to Washington not to take this step, the newspaper adds.
