Original Message Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been a hero to liberal feminists, who have given her the rap-like name “Notorious RGB.” On the subject of race, however, Ginsburg is no hero – in fact, she’s had a racist secret hiding in plain sight for years.

The revelation came in a tweet from Ed Whelan, President of The Ethics and Public Policy Center and a lawyer who writes for The National Review Online’s “Bench Memos” column. He’s also the co-editor of the book Scalia Speaks, so he knows a thing or two about the Supreme Court and the justices that serve on it.

Whelan tweeted in response to an article by The New York Times talking about Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and his knack of choosing women as his law clerks. “More than half of Judge Kavanaugh’s law clerks were women — something conservatives want you to remember about the SCOTUS nominee,” a tweet by the Times read with a link to the article, which dispels the myth that he might be anti-woman, and therefore, hostile to Roe v. Wade.

The article missed an even bigger point, according to Whelan. “Surprising that article doesn’t also mention that of Kavanaugh’s 48 clerks, 6 have been Asian American, 5 African American, and 2 Hispanic,” he tweeted.

For someone who is supposed to be the ambassador for “Trump bigotry” on the Supreme Court, that seems awfully open-minded.

The real bombshell, however, was what Whelan said next. “Over her 13 years on D.C. Circuit, Ruth Bader Ginsburg had ZERO African American clerks.”

Before you think that Ginsburg just didn’t have viable candidates to hire, that isn’t true. In fact, African Americans are represented among court clerks at higher rates than in the population. Except in Ginsburg’s chambers, of course.

Here is Whelan’s tweet.

After being accused of “cherry picking” numbers -after all, the “zero clerks” fact didn’t cover her Supreme Court term, someone checked the numbers there.

As of late 2017, RBG had hired one—ever—black law clerk at SCOTUS. Ed’s not cherry-picking; he’s just got a juicy target here. That’s the unfortunate reality.
