It was a pretty harsh smoke, so you had to take care not to tear your throat out. We broke then up and used them for play logs and built forts in the dirt. One Christmas my husband and I were so broke we could not afford a tree, so I decorated a tumbleweed with Chinaberries http://rangeplants.tamu.edu/plant/chinaberry/ which looked like little golden balls. And some other stuff too. But it make a cool looking tree.
Lol! I remember as a kid we had several silver painted tumbleweed christmas trees.
this happened to a few towns near Angor Wat: The tumbleweeds seems harmless at first untill their seeds sprout and mature creating habitat for reptiles like the Gila Monster, then the occassional mesquite tree uses its taproot to crack into your sewer line inevitably feeding a lot of sketchy looking groups of blackbirds that think you are a piece of turd, next an outbreak of dandelions on your front lawn which although aesthetically pleasing attracts the horrendous pollinators which in turn attracts the bug eaters infested with transmittable diseases like black plague, then comes the apex predators who normally stay distant untill your house became a giant all you can eat buffet and they dont really understand why its wrong to eat those little things running and screaming around with flailing arms, and we all know what happens when human dna has been ingested by mother nature's furry woodland creatures dont we...? think of this tribe of tumbleweeds as immune cells surrounding a parasite, the taproot of the trees works like a T-cell and once the human dna the coyotes and bobcats ate has been "uploaded" into gaia mind, we the human species will be identified by our phermones everywhere we go like a beetle wandering into an ant hill. we have no chance.
