[quote:Daniel Higdon:MV8zNDg0NzUzXzYyMTc3NzAwX0I0RTA1RTQ0] Let's hope the following is really true: Nunes: Leaks against Trump jeopardize reauthorization of crucial spying powers Rep. Devin Nunes said Thursday that Republicans' concerns about intelligence leaks targeting President Trump are jeopardizing congressional reauthorization of crucial government surveillance tools. Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act allows the National Security Agency to monitor telephone communications and Internet data generated by foreign nationals. <snip> Nunes, the House Intelligence Committee chairman and California Republican who supports re-authorizing "702" before it expires at year's end. But he said its fate is in doubt. "Right now, there's not the votes for it," Nunes told the Washington Examiner. "I don't know where you would find 218 votes today to reauthorize 702." http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/nunes-leaks-against-trump-jeopardize-reauthorization-of-crucial-spying-powers/article/2618428
Stellar Wind or Stellarwind is the code name of information collected under the President's Surveillance Program (PSP). The National Security Agency (NSA) program was approved by President George W. Bush shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks and was revealed by Thomas Tamm to The New York Times in 2008.
New NSA Spying Info on Project Code Named ‘Stellar Wind’: Collected Data Akin to a ‘Real-Time Map of Your Brain’
Binney says Stellar Wind was far larger than has been publicly disclosed and included not just eavesdropping on domestic phone calls but the inspection of domestic email. At the outset the program recorded 320 million calls a day, he says, which represented about 73 to 80 percent of the total volume of the agency’s worldwide intercepts. The haul only grew from there. According to Binney—who has maintained close contact with agency employees until a few years ago—the taps in the secret rooms dotting the country are actually powered by highly sophisticated software programs that conduct “deep packet inspection,” examining Internet traffic as it passes through the 10-gigabit-per-second cables at the speed of light.
The project began under George W. Bush’s administration in 2001 with oversight by the FISA court
