Who knows, but it's worth watching.
Doom off. Mauna Loa is not an "explosive" erupting volcano. Its erupts slowly and just spills out slow moving lava. It'll cause some minor problems for Aviation in the area, but we're certainly not going to see the whole island go up all Krakatoa or Santorini/Thera style... So no, this is not "doom" worthy.
"Variability in the composition of deep magma is what leads to explosive or effusive eruptions, with the more gas-rich magmas producing the more explosive eruptions. "Gas-rich magmas are 'predisposed' to rise quickly through the Earth's mantle and crust and erupt powerfully," said University of Hawaii volcanologist Bruce Houghton. For scientists mapping real-time hazards and risks associated with volcanic eruptions, being able to predict the type or eruption and the direction it will flow in are critical. At an early stage, it is difficult to make accurate predictions of which way the eruption will flow and what form the eruption will take on."
Check out Volcanoes and Earthquake site. I can't link it or I'll be banned. It's claimed as the worlds largest volcano. It had a shallow, 2 km deep, 4+ EQ directly under the shield. Now it's upgraded to yellow alert and an aviation warning is issued. I'll add more info as I figure out how to do it without causing terouble.
