Original Message Omar Mateen terrorized his Florida grade school by threatening to go on a shooting spree ... according to multiple former classmates.

5th grade classmate Leslie Hall tells us Mateen told a group of kids at Mariposa Elementary he was going to bring a gun to school and kill everyone. She says it was not received as a joke and the kids immediately told a teacher, and Mateen was suspended for 2 weeks.

Hall doesn't recall exactly what prompted the threat, but does remember her mom having multiple meetings with the school faculty about Mateen's constant bullying of her and other students.

Elementary school classmate says Omar Mateen was suspended for threatening to go on shooting rampage

...

Hall remembered that “Omar even as a kid had issues and always caused problems in school and hated women.

...

An anonymous teacher from his school days also told WPEC that Mateen had a tendency towards violence and lashing out while at Mariposa, which he attended from third to fifth grade.

She said that he had been told by his father, Seddique Mateen, that he did not have to listen to women and that school staff did not get support from his father during attempted interventions.

"The whole staff was concerned about him. I can honestly say of all my students there were 2 that I knew they were going to grow up to hurt someone," she said.

Many students that attended Martin County high school with Omar posted to social media expressing similar recollections. Despite the school's efforts his former teacher says Omar would only take instruction from home.

" I believe he was taught to be that way in his early years. He was encouraged by his family. I thought of him often. I am so sad. I am sad he didn't get the help."

We know Omar attended Mariposa Elementary from 3rd to 5th grade. He went on to Martin County High school until 2011. Former classmates say he was transferred to Spectrum Junior/Senior High School following the 9/11 attacks.
