[quote:Anonymous Coward 30634082:MV8yOTg1NzcyXzUyODc1NDc3XzVDNTQ5NTNF] I went through one from when I was 9 to 13 in the early 1980's to the mid 1980's. I had to make my own way to another school very far away, but made fast friends and that was not an issue. I will tell you that it swelled my head a bit and I was subject to some harassment by classmates, but not for long as I was quite a popular young person. However, the resentment from the adults was more difficult to deal with. They can be quite jealous and hateful. As far as the program itself was concerned, it was largely unstructured or at least appeared to be. Emphasis was on exposure to culture, traveling, creativity, technology ( especially computers which at that time were non existent in other schools) and media, including writing and producing tv style shows. As I grew older, I did in fact end up in the military. Hope this sheds some light on it from a students point of view. [/quote]

So my baby June, in 1st Grade - her teacher at the last PTO (We call them that in this State) - they are teaching her 3rd Grade English and Math since she "naturally" is able to pick up on the 1st/2nd grade material.
Now - I've read other threads... about gifted children being "targeted" -
Hell, I just read something about during the Cold War they really pushed the "gifted program" for students and "morphed" them...
So I'm super excited - yet also worried.
I'm not a mother, I'm a Dad - so there's a slight disconnect, (Boys love Mom, Girls Love Dad) - yet Dad's don't have that magic intuition that Mothers do.
Since it's a Public School, should I be worried?
