LONDON: The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, may have been beaten to death by US forces following the air strike on his safe house, two British newspapers claimed yesterday. The Observer and the Sunday Times both carried reports on events leading up to his death, citing apparent eye-witnesses to the immediate aftermath of the attack near Baquba, last Wednesday.

But the leader of coalition forces in Iraq, US General George Casey, dismissed the claims as "ludicrous", telling the Fox News television channel: "That's baloney."

In a two-page report, The Observer said that although there was no corroboration of the claims that the badly-injured Zarqawi was beaten to death, revelations of revenge killings by US troops "means it cannot be discounted".

It quoted one man as saying US soldiers pulled a man resembling Zarqawi from an ambulance where locals had placed him, wrapped his traditional Arab robe, the dishdasha, around his head and "battered him severely till he died".

But General Casey said, "We've already gone back and looked at it. Our soldiers who came on the scene found him being put in an ambulance by Iraqi police, they took him off, rendered first aid, and only then expired."

Zarqawi Beaten, 'That's Baloney'
U.S. General Dismisses Claims That Troops Hit Qaeda In Iraq Leader
[OP: Well, he would hardly admit it, would he?]

Quote:

"When the Americans arrived they took him out of the ambulance, they beat him on his stomach and wrapped his head with his dishdasha, then they stomped on his stomach and his chest until he died and blood came out of his nose."

Iraqi man who claims U.S. soldiers beat al-Zarqawi.

(CBS/AP) The top commander of U.S. troops in Iraq brushed back claims that slain al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was beaten by U.S. forces after his hideout was bombed Wednesday.

"The way I respond to the comments of the alleged Iraqi who saw what went on there is: 'that's baloney,' Gen. George Casey said."

[OP: An inadequate response, Gen. Casey. It's not very convincing to rubbish an eyewitness without explaining WHY the man was wrong. But then you can't, can you, because the man was right. As the US soldiers were certainly searching for Zarqawi after the house was bombed, why would they waste their energy beating up someone else there?]

"An Iraqi man who was one of the first people on the scene of the U.S. airstrike targeting al-Zarqawi said he saw American troops beating a man who had a beard like the al Qaeda leader.

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Casey said al-Zarqawi died while American soldiers were attempting to save his life."

[OP: Like hell! Believe that and you will believe anything. One minute the US military is trying to kill Zarqawi, the next minute they are trying to save his life! Oh! how humanitarian of them! Does Casey really think we will fall for his nonsense?].

"The witness, who lives near the house where al-Zarqawi spent his last days, said he saw the man lying on the ground near an irrigation canal. He was badly wounded but still alive, the man told Associated Press Television News.

The Iraqi, identified only as Mohammed, said residents put a bearded man in an ambulance before U.S. forces arrived.

"When the Americans arrived they took him out of the ambulance, they beat him on his stomach and wrapped his head with his dishdasha, then they stomped on his stomach and his chest until he died and blood came out of his nose," Mohammed said, without saying how he knew the man was dead."

[OP: After witnessing several minutes of brutal beating to death, the guy hardly needed to check Zarqawi's pulse in order to be pretty sure he was dead!]

"No other witnesses have come forward to corroborate the Iraqi man's account that al-Zarqawi was beaten. U.S. officials have only said al-Zarqawi mumbled and tried to roll off a stretcher before dying."

This story has never added up right from the start. Everyone in the house gets killed. Then everyone gets killed except Zarqawi, who has nine lives. Then he dies from his injuries despite having only a bruise and a few scratches on his face. Then someone claims he saw US soldiers beating him to death after he showed signs of life. Then the military fly in forensic experts (why bother, if they were so sure how he died? LOL! We can be confident, can't we, that these guys are absolutely independent of the military and will carry out an impartial examination of the body and report honestly, if it proves the case, that Zarqawi died of injuried sustained from a beating by US soldiers. Like hell!). Of course the military command already know how the man died. Only they won't tell YOU.

Smoke and mirrors again. Don't you get tired of the lies?
