I went through the same deal only it was only $5000 worth of equipment and it was only a day. If nothing turns up, it all falls on the company commander who is signed for all of them. The commander will have to pay the 50 grand or whatever.
I know its standard operating procedure. Its about accountability. The company commander who signed for them did not keep track of the items. Most of the unit didnt even know they were there. If that many weapons are going to be in an unsecured area, the least they could have done was put up a camera to watch them. Most of the unit wasnt even aware they were there. Personally I believe they were shipped out with a previously deployed unit and the paper trail went missing. I just feel for these guys. A lot of them are fathers and mothers.
I have been waiting for this to pop up in the news as I have a buddy who is in the unit that is locked down. The missing items are most definitely weapons. So the article is very misleading. Its $50,000 worth of bayonets and scopes and they are making the soldiers search the same area of the air field over and over. Nothing is really being done to find the weapons. So this coupled with the missing drone, very suspicious! I think its CYA time over at FT Drum!
Snip:
FORT DRUM — Members of an aviation company have been confined to their work area all week amid a search for approximately $50,000 worth of missing equipment.
