[quote:mehitable lives:MV8yNDE0NjUwXzQxNDIyMDA1XzZENTdENkUy] [quote:Anonymous Coward 48434616:MV8yNDE0NjUwXzQxNDIxOTIzX0FCNjY4NTM0] OP, this is absolutely TRUE! I've stated this before and even the mobile app states that it will have control of your camera and mic. Here's a snap shot of the 42 screens I captured that list the terms of the app for android. Look at the last image to the right, it states, "record audio". http://postimg.org/image/jcf3nb10r/ This has happened TIME AND AGAIN, when I was JUST talking about something and upon going into google, I will start typing something and there is the EXACT thing I was just talking about. I mean, really obscure things at times too! Good catch OP. I think I've mentioned it on here before but, I'm not a registered user and my stuff seems to get glossed over as a result. [/quote] Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing!!!! And for taking the time to make those images! The more of us who share our awareness of this in different places, the more we can arouse anger and resistance against these practices. People may be willing to give up some control to use Facebook or other programs - email for example - but I can't imagine many - if any - people willing to give up complete privacy in their own homes and cars just because they carry a phone or have a computer in the house. And we don't even know the full extent of what devices can spy on us. Apparently anything with a computer chip could potentially. This could even be...say, the car itself, as many cars are now computerized to various extents. Many household appliances are. And of course, we all have TVS, and who knows WHAT is going through the TV? So enough of us are experiencing this to confirm that this experience IS true and seems fairly common!!! We need to confirm experiences to each other as otherwise we might feel alone and/or paranoid...but unfortunately we now live in a world this technology is not only possible, but actively being used against us. I am throwing this out there for thought and discussion. Has anyone had the experience where you have been discussing a topic - verbally - not something you have written an email about or Googled or used the computer on - and an AD comes up on Facebook that day (or maybe next day but usually same day) about the SAME TOPIC YOU HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING?
For example....you might be discussing something fairly unusual like....Filipino geneaology...and an ad will show up on Facebook for something directly related to that. And you only discussed it verbally with someone else in the house - NOT via the computer at all. Perhaps you've discussed something like oh....Smith Brothers cough drops (haven't seen them in an eon) and an ad will pop up on your Facebook that day for Smith Brothers.
I don't know how common this is and I don't see people discussing it but I wanted to raise the issue.
NOTICE YOUR FACEBOOK ADS IN THE FUTURE AND SEE IF THEY REFLECT ANY PRODUCTS OR TOPICS YOU'VE BEEN DISCUSSING RECENTLY.
My point? I think that they are actually listening to at least some of us via the computers and translating part of this information into advertising (that shows up on Facebook). We can guess where the rest goes. I don't know if Facebook has to be open for this to happen, or if it happens anyway. Now personally I NEVER use Facebook so I can't test it for myself. But I have been told this, so I figure you guys are a good test sample.
Be aware of your Facebook ads in the future and see if they reflect anything you've been discussing just verbally recently. this is NOT the same as Google ads that might reflect your email as they read all our emails anyway. This is LISTENING.
