My uncle* told me about a recent meeting he had with the local school board.
It seems that it is their desire to implement some sort of paperless (or near paperless) technology based learning system. It involves heavy use of iPads and other such "tools" (as they call them).
They seem to think it would be ideal for children to do everything from essays to calculus on an iPad, and for teachers to mark everything on the iPad.
I am paraphrasing here, but basically they said that text books become obsolete within a short span of time so electronic textbooks would be ideal for updating. What? Since when has chemistry changed, or history. This seems like Orwell to me: the ability to change textbooks like fucking twitter.
I am not a big fan of the whole education system in the first place (mind you I did go through it just fine), but now they are trying to turn calculus into children's games and writing into an auto-correct nightmare. The majority of kids in the public school system can hardly do spelling and fractions as it is now. They are watering this shit down.
My theory: They are taking public schools in small rural communities in places like Canada, watering the education down, and creating a greater divide between elitist private schools and would-be middle class workers.
They use ignorant overzealous tech-apple-blow-jobbers in "powerful" school board positions to implement this.
Does anyone else notice this problem growing? I would like to know as i could then confirm or adapt my theory.
We need to act on this now! Many of the kids are already damaged beyond repair by this sort of thinking outside the classroom.
I probably don't have to tell most GLPers this, but please, heavily supplement your kid's education at home.
Anyhow, I think this quote sums it up:
"I fear the day when technology overlaps our humanity. It will be then that the world will have permanent ensuing generations of idiots" Einstein
*Yes a GLP uncle. not really my uncle
