VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news) -- The Diocesan Commission on Occult and Satanism has expressed its opinion on Halloween. Various parents and youth centres had asked if Halloween was compatible or not with people of Christian faith.
The Commission, while recognising the fact that many people celebrate this feast in a neutral way, and see it as an opportunity for having some fun pointed out that Halloween is a feast of pagan origin.
Halloween is also linked with many superstitions and traditions that are more connected with the spiritual and occult world which contrast with the Christian ways. For this reason, the Commission believes that whoever wishes to take seriously his Christian faith should not celebrate Halloween.
Even though the celebrations may be superficial, and without any ulterior motives, celebrations could lead to the introduction of a neo-pagan and occult culture which is very common these days.
The Commission said that on 1st November, it would be more appropriate if Christians celebrate the feast of all saints, which Pope Benedict XVI together with all the youths gathered in Cologne called "the true revolutionaries of our societies." The following day, we commemorate our dead and pray for them.
