Buy Nothing Day: No purchase necessary!
November 21st, 2009 10:31 pm ET.

Christmas products being stocked on store shelves earlier and earlier every year? If you are someone who avoids Black Friday like the plague, this special "holiday" may be right up your alley!

Buy Nothing Day was founded by Canadian artist and activist Ted Dave back in 1992 in an effort to raise awareness about over-consumption and consumerism. Today, the event is celebrated all over the world. In North America, Buy Nothing Day falls on the same day as Black Friday, which is November 27th, 2009. In Europe and other countries, the day is recognized on November 28th.

So go ahead - take a break from buying during the annual 24-hour moratorium. And while you're at it, why not cut down on all sorts of over-consumption this year too? Turn off the lights and unplug the appliances you aren't using.
